CHAIRMAN'S COMMENTS
By
David Feist

Let me
introduce myself, I am David Feist, the Chair for Section 1509 for the 2002 - 2003 ASQ
Calendar Year. I am excited by the possibilities which lay before us this year.
The last several years have been difficult for Section 1509, as our leadership has
struggled to keep pace with the needs of our diverse section. One year ago, Dr. Elshennawy
(2001 - 2002 Chair) and myself were asked to assist with the Section, and took on the role
of defining our mission, and how to serve the Central Florida Section.
My chairmanship this year is a continuation of the effort started last year. Key to this
effort has been calling on the talents of many members of the section, to serve as members
of the Executive Committee. Without this group, none of the activities would happen.
You can see the result of their efforts in the website, mailers, meetings,
speakers, certification exams, re-certification activities, etc... All of the items
which keep an active section vital to its membership. Each of these individuals have
given of their time, because they believe that each of us makes a difference. We
have also been fortunate to have individual corporate backers, who have devoted resources,
including space for our web-site, our phone reservations line, and notification of our
activities on internal web-sites.
Our goals have been simple. To establish each year in advance, a schedule for our
meetings and activities, and publish them as early as possible. To provide relevant
programs that allow us to learn about our field, and how it touches on many daily
activities. To send postcard reminders of our meetings, and e-mail notifications of
activities as well.
We will continue to expand these programs, and are looking at institutionalizing certain
items, such as our desire to fund an on-going scholarship for local university students.
Our efforts over the past year have been recognized by the ASQ National Office,
through the award of a certificate for "Achievement of the Total Quality Level"
for our Section Management Process.
We continue to survey our membership, to add value to ASQ membership. We encourage
not only suggestions, but active participation. If you have an idea for an activity,
and know how to bring it about, we want your help.
I look forward to a great year.
David Feist
Chair,
ASQ Orlando Section 1509
