Dr.
Furterer will tell us how the Industrial Engineering and
Management Systems (IEMS) Department at the University of
Central Florida has incorporated service experiential learning
opportunities into the curriculum within a Total Quality
Improvement course that helps to tie the community to
engineering education.
About
the Speaker
Dr.
Sandy Furterer is the Assistant Chair and an Assistant Professor
in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management
Systems at the
University
of
Central Florida
. Her teaching and
research interests are in quality engineering, engineering
management, engineering education, and change management. She
has a Bachelor and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering
from
Ohio
State
, an MBA from
Xavier
University
in
Cincinnati
, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the
University
of
Central Florida
.
Prior
to returning to study for her Ph.D. in 2002, Dr. Furterer was a
management consultant specializing in implementing Lean and
Quality principles and tools in both “white collar” and
manufacturing processes.
She
was a Manager of Industrial Engineering for Mead Data Central
(now Lexis Nexis), facilitating improvements in data fabrication
and information systems development processes.
She also performed information systems analysis for
AT&T.
Dr.
Furterer is an ASQ certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSBB) and a
certified Quality Engineer (CQE), as well as a Girl Scout troop
leader.
